Organized by the Unikom Osijek, company for waste management, with the support of the City of Osijek, the Osijek-Baranja County, the Environmental and Energy Efficiency Fund and other partners, including the Croatian Agency for Agriculture and Food (HAPIH), the event took place at the Osijek Economic Center on April 11th and 12th.
The event was designed to serve both educational and entertainment purposes, to raise awareness about the importance of environmental protection and responsible waste management, including food waste. Special focus was placed on children, encouraging them to develop sustainable habits from an early age. This initiative aims to instil lifelong practices of responsible waste handling, fostering a more sustainable future.
The event’s diverse programme featured an educational gastro show with the famous chef, Tomislav Đukić, accompanied by Vlatka Buzjak Služek from HAPIH’s Centre for Food Safety. Vlatka emphasized the essential guidelines for safe food handling and offered practical advice on how everyone can easily contribute to reducing food waste in their homes.
Participants had the opportunity to watch chef Đukić and students from the Hospitality and Tourism School in Osijek prepare delicious dishes using entire food items to minimize food waste. Throughout the demonstration, they highlighted the importance of adhering to food hygiene and safety guidelines during food preparation.
